We have received exactly 8.00'' of rain in the last 31 days. On top of that, it has been ideally well-spread, including 13 days in that period with totals of 1/4'' or more...just what we needed to erase the drought that was developing at the end of March. We now stand at 12.62'' this YTD (130% of normal) and 16.49'' since Oct. 1 (90% of normal.)
Unusual for spring, most of the last month's rain has come as showers, without thunderstorms...severe weather has been sparse this season. Oak pollen season ended 1-2 weeks earlier than average with symptoms disappearing by April 10. The annual smoke haze from Central American agricultural fires appeared for several days in the last week before widespread rains washed it out.
The landscape is pleasantly green everywhere, grasses are full, and wildflowers like Indian Blanket and common yellow varieties are abundant on roadsides. A pair of Bewick's Wrens are nesting in our outdoor deck rafters, and the parents have had no trouble in constantly finding insects of all kinds to feed 6 lively young! Creeks and ponds are holding normal levels of water. No burn ban.
