Several light rains over the week totaling 0.55" was gradual enough to keep the surface soil moist while the deeper soil remains pretty wet from previous heavy rains.  Area waterways are a bit on the high side while larger rivers are higher yet.  So, soil conditions appear near normal at the surface and deeper soil seems closer to mildly wet.  Tough call but near normal will have to do.  A nearby pond did come up several feet from a very low level and is about full but it is slowly dropping, so it seems the deeper soil is soaking up some of that water.  Maybe the dominant drought conditions we've experienced over the last few years have finally ended.  Time will tell.  Anyhow, trees have really leafed out in this area and look a vibrant green along with area lawns that require frequent mowing.  Wildlife is busy enough with a local hen turkey roaming around my yard and getting surprisingly close, clearly showing that she is no chicken.  And I briefly saw a pileated woodpecker the other day.  What a prehistoric looking bird it is.  Our modern day dinosaur no doubt.
