For most of the week it had been mostly extremely dry, but beautiful tempature. Needed to water like crazy to keep my young plants alive. Some plants are still behind in when they should be flowering. Early Sat morning, we had a huge storm with a tornado touching down less than a mile from my house. My house got 1.87" of rain in approx 1 hour and massive limbs fell from some trees. (One branch was the size of a small tree and has smashed the bushes below) The pond filled up but then soaked into the ground by the next morning. But then on Sunday we got an additional 0.36"
In the coming days need to see how much of this rain has been retained by the soil and how much became run off. While this is a huge increase in rainfall for the month, we are still below average rainfall by 3 inches for April and 12 inches for the year.
I drove to Clower Thorten Park/Trail. I passed where some of the damage from tornado was and saw many downed trees.
I took advantage of the wet soil to plant some more seeds. Hopefully we will get more rain this coming week too.
I had checked weather forecast on Friday morning and they had removed the rain chances for the weekends. I filled up the rain barrels with city water to give a chance to de-chlorinate before using it in the marsh grass ponds. So did not capture any rain water. Need to get another water barrel.
Birds seemed more active on Sunday than they have been recently. Huge numbers at the birdfeeders. If I put out seed in the morning, it will be gone by nightfall. I like to stop feeding them by late spring, but I feel a lot of the plants are behind schedule so do not know if there is enough other sources.
Still not have heard any frogs/toads. Saw 2 turtles over the weekend (one before and after the storm. Different shellls so not the same one) Several tiny snakes and lizards as well.
The weather was dry for the baseball game Sat night so I am glad we had good weather for that. Though the Schuckers lost. The Dragon Boat Races in Biloxi were delayed
