Description:
Temperatures were 15 to 20 degrees above average Monday through Thursday, dropping to near normal at the end of the week. The high fire danger warning and red flag warning continued through Thursday as the ground and vegetation were dry and the relative humidity was very low. Conditions were then wet, with 0.76-inch rain Thursday afternoon through Saturday. The soil is wet at the surface and 3 inches down. The trees and grass have remained green. Conditions are near normal. April rainfall is up to 4.50 inches, 1.73 inches above normal (162 percent of normal). Precipitation here for the year is now 6.90 inches, which is 0.49 inch above normal (108 percent of normal). Precipitation for the water year is 1.01 inch below normal (91 percent of normal). Plants and wildlife. Bird visits to the heated bird bath higher than normal early in the week due to the hotter and drier conditions in the area, then returned to normal with the rainfall. Approximately 15 species of birds (about 80 to 90 birds visit each day). Water Supply Water level in Standing Bear Lake (approximately 0.2 mile to the east of here) is near normal. Area creeks and ponds are also near normal.
