April showers are few and far between with just a trace and two days of barely measurable precip totally just 0.07". Temps seem to stay a little below average, overnight temps staying in the 30s and 40s and daytime temps mostly in the 40s and 50s. Good temperatures for working outdoors (or running a Marathon), or taking a walking tour with a focus on Revolutionary sites.
Trees continue to sprout leaves and flowers. Norway maples are showing a lot of greenery this week, Cherry trees are in bloom (wild and ornamental), dogwood buds continue to develop and lots of shrubs are sprouting leaves again. Azelas are starting to bloom, at least one variety anyway. Older azela varieties are showing plump buds now and will start to blossom soon. Rhododendrons are right behind. Tulips seem to be the star of the week - they're showing up just about everywhere - in gardens, in front of businesses, even traffic islands. A few friends are finding deer are enjoying them even more!
Forecasters are predicting a little more rain this coming week. At least a few of us are hoping for at least one day of soaking rain. It's too early (at least here) to start planting outdoors, but local greenhouses are busy and many of us are in planning stages for gardens, planters and window boxes - some by seed and others by small plants now getting squeezed into what little space is available in windows, bringing them out during the day and back in at night. Tis the season...
