Our conditions this week were Mildly Wet with only 0.14" of rain falling, but we are still dealing with the residual effects of the all the heavy rain and storms that we received earlier in the month. The Kalamazoo River and local Millrace have been slowly receding after flooding has kept our local River Walk closed. Local farm fields and woodlands still have quite a bit of standing pooled water. People are busy cleaning up all the tree damage left by the EF-1 tornado that rampaged through the north end of Plainwell a week and half ago. There have been reports locally in southwest Michigan that a few trees have been toppling over just because the ground is so soft from rain that the roots can't hold them up. Tree service businesses appear to be very busy right now. Grass is growing enough to require mowing. Fruit trees, red-buds and lilacs are blooming. Bushes and maple trees are leafed out; and oak, black walnut, sycamore and catalpa trees are in early bud stage. Daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, dandelions, vinca, phlox, bleeding hearts are blooming. Hasta, solomon seal, and ferns are growing. Temperatures this week have been mostly above seasonal average with daily highs in the 70's and 80's (F), but we started the week with a hard frost on 4/20/2026.
