Thus far for my “Watershed,” that resides in the “Upper Passaic River” Watershed, that covers from 1.5 miles to the NW to about 1.5 miles to the SE and is about 1 mile in width and in the general shape of a diamond;
There were two days with measurable precipitation and one day with trace precipitation for a total of 0.06”, the past seven days [Sunday-Saturday].
River and stream volume the past week of this CMR further increased and decreased rates of flow over small lake dams west of this station. As of Sunday afternoon, 4/19/2026; one oncreased its flow to 100% the width of the dam 6.5 miles from this station moving at a SLOW volume with NO observable turbidity. The other, 2 miles to the west, decreased its flow over its fall, covering about 20% of its respective fall and moving at a similar volume, and with no observable turbidity. The Madison Golf Course, adjacent this station also had observable play. The ground around this station is hydrated up high, but hard to walk on. Grass and weeds continue to emerge out of dormancy. Daffodils, (that bloomed on 4/3) wilted between 4/15 and 4/18 and Forsythia that bloomed on 3/24, have dropped 95% of their flowers and leaves have fully emerged. Tulip Tree flowers have wilted. Red Buds are at peak bloom with leaf buds emerging and Cherrys continue to hold their flowers with leaves beginning to fully develop. Maple tree flower are also starting to fall. Not quite a “yellow rain.” Active Birds around this station included; House Finch, Cardinals, a murder of Crows, Mourning Doves and a Blue Jay, all were active and numerous Brown Snakes were slithering around Loantaka Preserve late the evening of 4/14. The feeder was refilled the evening of 4/18 and as of the evening of 4/20 is 10% consumed. Neighborhood squirrels, a chipmunk and a Rabbit were also observed adjacent this station. The first Frost observation for this station, this season, was reported on October 10th. Since then; this observer has observed and reported a total of 48 days with frost, zero additional the past seven days. Spring Peepers, first observed the evening of 3/9, continue to be heard around local ponds and Spring Pools every day and evenings that are warm including the evening of 4/17. Bumble Bees continue working flowers around this station. Juvenal Oaks around the station have flowered and Juvenal leaves have formed.
Over the past 31 days; this station has captured and reported 1.62 inches of precipitation. There has been 39 days of precipitation the previous 108 days of CY2026 [1/1/2026 to 4/19/2026] for a “Calendar Year” [CY] total of
10.44”, compared to a total of 35 days of precipitation and a [CY] total of
13.26” the same [year to date] in CY2025. So far, compared to last year, this station has received 2.82” less precipitation than a year ago. Some other totals from previous years, for comparison, are;
YTD2024- 21.91”
YTD2023- 11.61”
YTD2022- 13.88”
YTD2021- 13.28”
YTD2020- 11.94”
YTD2019- 15.02”
YTD2018- 19.13”
YTD2017- 13.63”
YTD2016- 14.10”
YTD2015- 10.58” (First full Year.)
The TWELVE year running average reported precipitation for this station is: 14.06 inches, holding this station at a deficit of 3.62” less then the 12 (CY) year average and 2026 is the DRIEST year as of this CMR. Considering the twelve year annual comparable total for this station and considering the previous years total precipation, is why I believe that it is appropriate to demote this week’s report to the “Mildly Dry” side of the Condition Scale Bar.
