About 0.5mm total of mixed precipitation this past week. Snowpack continues to diminish, with about 50% of the ground now bare, remaining snow primarily in wooded and sheltered areas. Ground is frozen. North-facing roof is still snow-covered. There is water in ditches and bogs. Bog trails are no longer navigable due to rising water levels, and forest trails are glare ice with cleats required. Ice on the lake is mostly bare of snow, but pretty solid. Roadways are dry. There was ATV traffic on the lake over the weekend. More migrating birds have appeared - redpolls, which were not seen this winter, juncos, evening grosbeaks (occasionally seen this winter), a yellow-rumped warbler, and a fox sparrow. Feels like a drier week, and a return to near normal cold spring conditions. Warm temperatures are expected this week.
