Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: NY-SL-21
Station Name: Heuvelton 0.3 WNW
Report Date: 4/20/2026
Submitted: 4/20/2026 8:47 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Wet
Description:
Mildly Wet but leaning towards Moderately Wet in the past week. Almost 1 and 1/3 inches of precipitation in the past 7 days. Basement is wet in all places with standing water. Ground is very moist and soggy in the places where the most water gathers. Grass has become more green and filled in in the past week. Generally cooler temps in the past week but there was one warm day.

Roses and sugar maples have broken bud. Lilacs leaves are just a little bigger than a squirrel's ear (yeah, you figure out how big that is).

Siberian Squills are now past peak and are open all of the time. Daffodils are in early bloom with tulip buds visible. Alliums are approaching 1 foot high, only leaves still. Violets are in early leaf mode.

Robins have been in house-hunting mode and I expect them to settle on a place within the next week (they always seem to build their nest exactly as lilacs mostly leaf out). There are some Canada Geese around but they may have decided to stay for the summer and are not migrating (have not seen or heard any migrating birds in the past week). Heard the Barred Owl again. Turkey buzzards continue in a large flock (counted 15+) flying together in swooping circles just before sunset. Flies and mosquitos are around. Earthworm night activity evidence. Peepers have been mostly quiet but they took advantage of the one warm day and peeped all through the day instead of the night. Ants have awoken (note how late the date is for that. I've seen ants awake around Groundhog Day, February 2, in the past few years).

Ground is still generally too wet to be raked or worked BUT it has been a good time for weed pulling. Have heard of potatoes and onions going into the ground.

Allergies have been oscillating: one day low, the next day moderate.

While yesterday's snow dampened some spirits, I chose to enjoy the light tink-tink-tink of winter's last visit of graupel.
