Last week, I recorded 6 days of precipitation totaling 3.99 inches. This resulted in the DP River rising to moderate flood levels at all gauges South of the Wisconsin border. In our residential area, almost all are in the 500-year flood zone with a high water table. Neighbors have experienced water seepage or flooded basements from the surcharged sewer piping. In my backyard, I had standing water for 1 day, and the sump pump was running every 60 seconds for a 6-hour period. The last such event period was in 2008, when the entire city of Park Ridge experienced flooding in many neighborhoods. This time, flooding was more isolated because of the removal of dams in the DP River, full implementation of the deep tunnel, and local improvement with maintenance of sewers.
