Since last reported on 04/12/2026, recorded only 0.01" of precipitation in the form of 0.20" snow this past Friday. Topsoil sample taken this afternoon indicates powder dry soil down to 3.0". At 4.0" the soil is slightly moist. Provided supplemental water to trees and perennials. Unfortunately, the precipitation we received came with freezing temperatures Saturday morning with a low of about 19F. As a result, many of the deciduous trees took a severe hit in the form of dead leaves. Our largest Aspen had completely leafed out and has dark leaves now.
Pikes Peak has a fresh coating of snow from the recent storm. However, the snowpack on the peak is mostly depleted and should be at its deepest this time of year. Red Flag Warnings were post last week on windy days. Relative humidity has been in the single digits making for high risk of wildfires. Grass continues to sprout but I don't know how. Wildlife activity continues to be normal with birds and rabbits everywhere especially in the morning. Seeing more activity among the insects with crickets chirping in the evening makes it sound like summer. With insignificant moisture since last reported, I will maintain Moderately Dry Condition Scale.
