Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: CO-LR-1272
Station Name: Estes Park 1.7 SW
Report Date: 4/19/2026
Submitted: 4/19/2026 1:55 PM
Scale Bar: Severely Dry
Description:
Still very dry in spite of the 1.8" of snow with 0.08" of moisture this past week. Fortunately there was little wind and most of the moisture went into the soil. Grasses and sedges are greening up, but the shrubs (mostly current, boulder raspberry, rabbit brush and Artemisia tridentata) are struggling. Birds and chipmunks continue to visit the birdbath and hummingbirds are beginning to show up. I have had one for the past week and it is frequenting the feeder. Deer and elk have been moving around the neighborhood grazing and browsing what little green there is. Have not seen a lot of insect life so far. Bluebird pair has been checking out one of our nesting boxes so I hope they decide to stay. River gauges that I am monitoring are below the average flows for this time of year, and 2 of them are trending down instead of the norm for this time of year with increasing flow. Snowpack SWE as reported by NWCC iMap shows my 6-Digit HUC is at 36% of median and my 8-Digit HUC is at 40% of median. My DEX dashboard reports I am at 15% of normal MTD, 44% of normal YTD, and 46% of normal WYTD, all measured against PRISM model. There are no new fire restriction. Larimer county has restrictions for all elevations below 9000'. The National Park always has Stage 1 restrictions in place. Other jurisdictions within Larimer County are under the same restrictions. On a positive note, the avalanche danger in the area is Low per CAIC, most likely due to lack of snowpack.
