Temperatures varied from above average to slightly below average. The high fire danger warning and red flag warning expired as the ground and vegetation continue to receive rainfall. Above normal rainfall continued. I received 1.77 inches of rain this week. The soil is wet at the surface and 3 inches down. The grass has greened up and trees and shrubs are recovering from unusually dry conditions in February and March. Conditions are near normal. April rainfall is up to 3.73 inches, 2.45 inches above normal (291 percent of normal). Precipitation here for the year is now 6.13 inches, which is 1.25 inch above normal (121 percent of normal). Precipitation for the water year is 0.29 inch below normal (97 percent of normal). Plants and wildlife. Bird visits to the heated bird bath remained decreased slightly this week due to the abundant rainfall. Approximately 15 species of birds (about 80 to 90 birds visit each day). Water Supply Water level in Standing Bear Lake (approximately 0.2 mile to the east of here) has improved to near normal to slightly above normal. Area creeks and ponds are also near normal. We are no longer in high fire danger.
