April 3 - 12, 2026: Unusual weather during the past 10 days. 0.08" mixed precip (rain, graupel, small hail, snow, winds, cold) on April 2-3; 7 days of dry and warm weather; then a total of 0.73" rain measured on April 11-12 as weather systems rapidly moved through SW Idaho. So, mostly very dry conditions with periods of above normal rain into the middle of April. Forecasts for next week show warm and wet days until mid-week then cooling for a few days (possibly down to 29°F for the morning low on Friday) then warming back up to 40's overnight and 70's during the days. Some snow accumulation on higher and highest elevations after the April 3rd storms, but snow rapidly melted off. Pollen counts are extreme, especially cottonwood and junipers. Trees, shrubs, and early flowering plants have been blooming for several weeks and are now going by. The old rule-of-thumb that when snow is gone from Shafer Butte above Boise then it's OK to put out cold sensitive plants may not be good advice this year. Snow has melted off Shafer but below freezing nights are still possible. Anna's hummingbirds are still at the feeders. Birds continue to be very active at the feeders. Reservoirs in the upper Boise Basin are full to nearly full, but only minimum flow is being released to the lower Boise River. Water managers are concerned that reservoirs may be drained by the end of the irrigation season this year. As the year progresses, concerns about drought and fires are increasing.
