Spring continued this last week. The first few days were warm with melting snow. Then there were two ice storms with a day with some sunshine between. The week ended cold and dreary. Spring was here, all four seasons, all kinds of clothing, very changeable weather, all stuffed into one week. Most of the snow and ice that fell during the week was gone by the end of the week. Some ice was on one end of the pond but the other end which is more open with more sunshine and fewer trees was open water. Geese and ducks were out swimming on favorable days. Ice was thin where it remained. All varmints of all kinds were hunkered down on the wet and icy days. Some deer were seen after dark grazing on the favorable days. Robins and other tweets were seen at times in my yard during the week. Some of the birds were fighting, likely over territory and mates. Killdeer were heard and seen on the favorable days. At the end of the week a kestrel was seen, at least on was back in the area. The creek ran during the week, some days with ice pellets in it and some nights with a bit of ice on the bank edges where there was slow moving water. Water moved through the system and was still high in the large creeks and small rivers at the end of the week. A little flooding and ponding occurred which often happens this time of year. Frost was out of the ground most of the week, a little was in the top of the ground on the coldest days. Some of the soft maple tree buds swelled and made a few spots along the wooded areas look red. Some gravel sideroads were very soft and a few had puss pockets on the warm days. Wildfire early int he week was elevated but the danger was low with the rain and ice at the end of the week. Maple sap flowed through the week and was cooked into syrup. Daffodil spikes changed little and a few crocuses bloomed. Very few single turkeys were seen and none were heard. A few farmers moved manure onto fields on the warm days. Skunks and racoons were out and about.
