Thus far for my “Watershed,” that resides in the “Upper Passaic River” Watershed, that covers from 1.5 miles to the NW to about 1.5 miles to the SE and is about 1 mile in width and in the general shape of a diamond;
There were three days with measurable precipitation and zero days with trace precipitation for a total of 0.29”, the past seven days [Sunday-Saturday].
River and stream volume the past week of this CMR slowed their rates of flow over small lake dams west of this station. As of Sunday afternoon, 4/5/2026; one continued its flow at 100% the width of the dam 6.5 miles from this station moving at a SLOW volume with NO observable turbidity. The other, 2 miles to the west, also maintained its flow over its fall, covering about 40% of its respective fall and moving at a similar volume, and with no observable turbidity. The Madison Golf Course, adjacent this station is open for the season and had observable play. The ground around this station is hydrated. Grass and weeds continue to emerge out of dormancy including, Tulips, Daffodils, (that bloomed on 4/3) and Forsythia that bloomed on 3/24 and are holding their yellow flowers w/ no leaves, in the neighborhood. Also; Tulip Trees, Red Buds and Cherrys have all bloomed. Active Birds around this station included; House Finch, Cardinals, a murder of Crows, Mourning Doves and a loud Blue Jay. The feeder was refilled the morning of 3/29 and as of this report, was 80% consumed. Neighborhood squirrels and a chipmunk were observed adjacent this station. The first Frost observation for this station, this season, was reported on October 10th. Since then; this observer has observed and reported a total of 47 days with frost, 1 additional the past seven days. Spring Peepers, first observed the evening of 3/9, continue to be heard around local ponds and Spring Pools every day and evenings, but fell silent 4/4. Also; a Bumble Bee was spotted working some flowers.
Over the past 31 days; this station has captured and reported 4.39 inches of precipitation. There has been 35 days of precipitation the previous 94 days of CY2026 [1/1/2026 to 4/4/2026] for a “Calendar Year” [CY] total of
10.19”, compared to a total of 30 days of precipitation and a [CY] total of
9.40” the same [year to date] in CY2025. So far, compared to last year, this station has received 0.79” more precipitation than a year ago. Some other totals from previous years, for comparison, are;
YTD2024- 20.30”
YTD2023- 10.85”
YTD2022- 10.06”
YTD2021- 11.93”
YTD2020- 8.89”
YTD2019- 12.52”
YTD2018- 16.02”
YTD2017- 12.80”
YTD2016- 13.63”
YTD2015- 10.06” (First full Year.)
The TWELVE year running average reported precipitation for this station is: 12.22 inches, holding this station at a deficit of 2.03” less then the 12 (CY) year average and the FIFTH driest year. Considering the twelve year annual comparable total for this station and considering the previous years total precipation, is why I believe that it is appropriate to maintain this week’s report on the “Near Normal” side of the Condition Scale Bar.
