Station Number: CO-LR-1272
Station Name: Estes Park 1.7 SW
Report Date: 4/5/2026
Submitted: 4/05/2026 1:33 PM
Scale Bar: Severely Dry
Description:
Very dry here. We got no relief from the little precipitation over the last week, and the high winds probably evaporated as much moisture away as fell. The high peaks have a bit more snow on them than last week, but still not nearly as much as they should for this time of year. We had a quick cold-snap the last couple of days with temps into the low 20s F, but it doesn't seem to have damaged any of the native plants. grasses and sedges in the yard are greening up. Simpson's Ball Cactus are starting to bloom and the Hooker's Townsend Daisies are still blooming. Cutleaf daisy has just started blooming this week. The dandelions are really coming up now. Most of the shrubs seem to be stuck at bud break right now. Plenty of birds visiting the birdbath for drinks. Deer have been around but haven't seen the elk in a week or more. Wyoming ground squirrels are starting to make their presence known. I have not been up in the park lately but the sledding area at Hidden Valley is closed for the season. Fire restrictions mostly remain in place. Larimer County has open burn ban restrictions. The Nat'l Park has gone back to their year-round restrictions after being Stage 2 for a couple of weeks. Still nervous about the potential for wildfire. River flows are hovering at or just above historical average for the date. Snowtel sites are reporting SWE 36% of Median for 6-Digit HUC and 50% for 8-Digit HUC. Not feeling very secure with the water situation this year.
