Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: TX-MSN-8
Station Name: Mason 0.4 W
Report Date: 4/4/2026
Submitted: 4/04/2026 8:43 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
The drought index got worst this week with the DSCI increasing to 179 and 79% under D1 conditions. However, it appears to me that conditions have improved and I believe the discrepancy is due to time lag for the index. We had a major rain storm this week and I measured 1.75 inches. Unfortunately, there was a lot of runoff, but a lot of rain was still absorbed by the ground and it is now much softer. We are getting another series of storms this weekend and that should help conditions considerably. Wildflower growth is everywhere and nearly all of the trees have all of their leaves showing. Animal activity is in full swing and I have observed a lot of insect activity in the yard and garden. The USGS reports the Llano River at Hwy 87 is flowing at 94 cfs, higher than previously but still low. The median for this date is 160 cfs, the 25th percentile is 103 cfs, and the record low is 53 cfs. We continue to be under a burn ban and have been so since before Christmas 2025.
