Since last reported on 01/05/2026, topsoil moisture has remained about the same with dry soil at the surface and moist soil at 2.0" depth and below. Found recently planted trees doing remarkably well considering the lack of substantial precipitation. Supplemental water was provided to the trees upon my return. Birds are active especially in the morning with Robins roaming the yard in search of food. I have also heard the Meadowlark. Native grasses have sprouted in some areas of the yard. Took a drive to visit our son in Penrose, CO this past Saturday. The remnants of the 24 fire are much further south on highway 115 than I thought. The blackened area is in the shallow canyon just before reaching Penrose. We did see a couple of fire engines standing by off the highway just in case of a flare-up. Did not see any scorched areas on the NW side of the highway. With the topsoil moisture remaining about the same as my last observation, I will maintain a Mildly Dry Condition.
