The National Weather Service has rated the northern half of this county (Cass) as D1 (Moderate Drought and the southern half as D0 (Abnormally Dry). The ground and fields remain dry. Strong winds enhance the danger of grass fires. Water levels in ponds and small lakes have risen, but are still below levels typical for this time of year.
