March 19 - 25,2026-- no precipitation, soil is dry, generally over 40°F overnight. On March 18, 2026, Boise reached a record-breaking 80°F marking the earliest 80-degree day in city history (records since 1875) and only the second time an 80-degree temperature has occurred in winter. This heat shattered the previous record of 74°F for that date, with regional temperatures soaring 20+ degrees above average. Soils are drying out and lawn/garden watering has begun...weeks earlier than normal. Trees, shrubs, and gardens are all leafing out and in full bloom. Birds are very active at feeders and water dishes. Birdsong at dawn is very loud and wonderful. Little or no snow left on the foothills ridges and peaks (6,000 to about 7,400 ft elevations). Unless there are many precip. events in upper elevations in April, May, and June, an early wildland season is probable. Large, erratic, and intense grassland and forest fires will happen throughout Idaho, surrounding states, and the West, pushing fire-fighting organizations to their limit.
