Station Number: TX-HNT-11
Station Name: Royse City 3.5 ENE
Report Date: 3/23/2026
Submitted: 3/23/2026 5:08 PM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
0.0” of rain last week. 1.09” of Evapotranspiration last week - however that is approximate as I had to bring the gauge in several nights due to a freeze concern. Temps for last week started below normal and then went way above normal to end the week - felt more like Summer than early Spring. Coldest daytime high was 46 degrees F and hottest was 89 degrees. Coldest overnight/morning low hit 32 degrees for a little while with warmest low at 64 degrees. Most days were sunny and some very windy. We are still under D1 Drought Status but the Burn Ban has been cancelled for Hunt County. I am still doing Spring cleanup in my garden beds and planted some new native grasses and plants as well. The ground has gotten hard and dry and has made that a bit more challenging than it was the last 2 weeks, especially when trying to hand pull the weeds. I gave supplemental watering to my container plants and will probably water the beds and trees this week as well since they are beginning their growing season and no rain in sight for at least the next two weeks and well, because we are behind on rainfall. The first Bluebonnet bloomed in my front yard and I’ve seen some nice patches along the side of the highway. It’s great to be a Texan in the Spring! I did have a little bit of plant damage due to the two cold nights we had as I risked it and didn’t cover them, most came out unharmed though. The Bluebirds are back this Spring playing their games of chase during the day - so fun to watch. All seems well here although we really need some rain. The story for the week is watching the continued emergence of Spring and still awaiting my first Hummingbird sighting for the season.
