Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: VA-WYC-5
Station Name: Waynesboro 1.6 WNW
Report Date: 3/23/2026
Submitted: 3/23/2026 10:09 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
Since last report (1/10/26), we have had a variety of precipitation events ("snow Crete" - snow and freezing rain that froze hard due to sub-freezing temperatures; freezing rain and sleet, along with regular rain). We measured 2.15" in January (11-31), 1.51" in February, and (so far)1.55' for March. We continue to be under drought conditions despite the moisture that has fallen. The state's drought monitor indicates we are in the severe drought category. We have an elevated fire risk this afternoon as windy conditions will prevail.
Overall, temperatures have been at or above normal for the period. We have attempted to weed and do some planting of cold-weather crops (carrots, radishes etc.). The weather - and perhaps some critters - have eaten all the tops of the sprouting seeds, so there are none growing at present.
The ticks have already made their presence known. We are going to use diatomaceous earth around all the gardening areas and the dog lot.
The birds are noisy today. They are apparently looking for nesting sites. Some bird has begun putting material in the old newspaper box that we have used for holding throw toys for the dogs.
