A dry week with mostly drizzle to account for any moisture. March so far has had 0.84", 11% of normal. The Drought map this week shows a large area of northeastern California in level D0--Abnormally Dry, from Sierra County to Modoc, and including Shasta and parts of Trinity and Siskiyou counties. Average highs 55F, lows 44F. Ruth Lake Reservoir at 102% on 3/12. The Mad River is holding steady at 7.5 feet, the Eel River at 12 feet at Scotia. Rivers warming slightly and more sections available for fishing. California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife announced a change for Dungeness crab fishing. They are now authorizing the use of "pop up" crab cages. The cages are placed on the seabed with a buoy and line attached to the cage. When ready for harvesting, an electronic signal releases the buoy, which pops up to the surface with the line attached to the cage. This is an effort to protect whales and sea turtles during the harvest season. As today is mid March, eagerly awaiting the blooming of Trillium under my Redwood trees.
