Enjoyed a taste of spring this week. Overnight temps stayed in the 40s most of the week, one night staying in the 50s. Most of the snow melted, the ground thawed allowing puddles to drain into the soil. Precip for the week was 0.58 plus a trace.
There are a few patches of undisturbed snowpack lingering in shady locations, and the snow piles are still hanging in there.
Birds that have stayed through winter are joined now with others returning as the seasons change. House wrens and purple finch made an appearance, joining the sparrows, Juncoes, nuthatches and woodpeckers. Crows and red tailed hawks are still around. Squirrels and rabbits are also spotted regularly.
The thick base of snow on the local ski hill is still thick enough to allow skiing, at least for now.
Astronomical spring comes this week. Shrubs and trees are showing signs of coming back with the warmer weather, higher sun angle and longer daylight hours. Spring is right around the corner.
