Station Number: MS-HR-57
Station Name: Gulfport 2.6 WSW
Report Date: 3/9/2026
Submitted: 3/09/2026 6:11 AM
Scale Bar: Moderately Dry
Description:
Until Sat night/sunday morning, my yard was extremely dry. I needed to water the new plants I have put into the garden. At 1 am Sat morning, the rain started and we received over 1.5" Unfortunately the rain was heavy early on and much of the water went into the ditches and street. It did not necessarily make it to the soil. Except for the normal wet areas of the yard, only the first few inches of soil are wet. When I dug holes for plants after the rain, the ground below topsoil was still very dry. The ephemeral spring pond that I normally have in side property, finally had some water in it after the rain. On my side property in Spring it is normally a 30 foot wide pond, after rain it is a puddle. I visted Eunice, LA which is significantly farther north than Gulfport. They were at least 1-2 weeks ahead in Spring. The oaks were covering everything yellow. While my oaks are still just budding. They had more new leaves on trees and shrubs. Temperatures were higher than average. High 74.7F and low 62.7, while average is 67/48.
