Two weeks have passed with only half an inch of rain to measure. Fog on Tuesday morning was dense. It didn’t hang around too long. Bare soil, in the area of turf renovation, is cracking on the surface but remains moist just a little deeper. No standing water in the drainage ditches. Lawn grasses, especially St. Augustine grass, have started growing in sunny locations and are in need of cutting. Oak trees are beginning to leaf out along with cypress, mulberry, and some cultivars of mayhaw trees. Pecan trees are still sleeping. The large flower pots of petunias did not need watering this week. As many as 30 cowbirds have taken over the feeding table at times during the day. In the early morning hours, a dozen mourning doves routinely feed on whatever is available and do a good job cleaning up the milo seeds that overpopulate the brand of wild bird seeds I’m using. Fire hazard warning in this area has been discontinued.
