Description:
General Awareness: This is my first report since 15 February 2026. No precip has been received in the period since my last report. February closed out with only 0.08 inch of precip received which is -0.55 inch below and 13% of the NOAA normal and -0.74 inch below and 10% of the PRISM normal. YTD total remains at 1.56 inches which is +0.19 above and 114% of the NOAA normal and -0.19 inch and 89% of the PRISM normal. The soil has a normally dry texture, with no cracking apparent. Therefore I classify our current condition as NEAR NORMAL. BLM continues to classify the Fire Hazard as MODERATE at the Fort Stanton Snowy River Cave National Conservation Area (closest border approx 2.6 miles ENE of my location).
Plants & Wildlife: The amount of visible and released pollen on/from the Juniper trees on and around our property has decreased since my last report. Similar to my last report, deer, elk, bunny rabbits and wild turkeys observed on our property appeared healthy and normal. The number of migratory birds observed on our property has notably decreased since my last report.
Water Supply & Quality: Rio Bonito appeared to be at a NORMAL water level, with a swift and audible flow, but with slightly murky water clarity, when observed Monday 02 March 2026 at approximately 1100 MST at the Box Canyon Trail Bridge approx 1.25 mi NNE of my station. (Bridge location from Google Earth: 33.4599993 N 105.6052082 W elevation 6596 feet. Rio Bonito is a primary watershed tributary from the Sierra Blanca, Lookout and Buck Mountains, approximately 12 miles SW-WSW of my location, and feeds our local aquafer.)
