We are in suspense in NH as to how the ongoing drought will affect the growing seasons. NH got only 40% of its usual precipitation in February, but because of a remarkably long cold spell, snow that fell on December 2nd is still on the ground, under a foot or two of later snows. That's given the skiing, snowmobiling and winter sports industry a welcome shot in the arm. However, NH in still in drought conditions for nearly 80% of its land mass, and 38% of in severe drought, That does not bode well for the upcoming fire season, spring agriculture nor residential water supplies, many of which are local wells. Hoping for a (gentle) spring melt and a rainy spring to bring us back in balance.
