Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: TX-MSN-8
Station Name: Mason 0.4 W
Report Date: 2/28/2026
Submitted: 2/28/2026 7:28 AM
Scale Bar: Moderately Dry
Description:
Conditions continue to dry out but the forecast is calling for significant amounts of rain this coming week. I have measured only 1.34 inches of rain this calendar year as compared to the long-term average of 3.10 inches (43%). For February, I measured .46 inches compared to the average of 1.97 inches (23%). The USGS reports the Llano River at Hwy 87 is flowing at 67 cfs compared to the 53-year median of 154 cfs and the record low of 60 cfs. Both the rainfall deficit and the low levels on the Llano River continue a long-term trend over the last several years that has impacted the agricultural and recreational industries in this area. The drought index remains unchanged from last week. Birds are returning and we spotted the first bluebonnets, a sure sign that spring is still returning despite the dry conditions. We continue to be under a burn ban since December 22, 2025.
