Under a 6-inch blanket of snow, NYS Mesonet soil temperature monitors 1 mile from here shows soil at 2 inches is frozen. Milder temperatures over the past week compared to last several weeks did not change soil temperatures but melted much of the ice dams on roofs. Cleared grassed areas surfaces muddied days and froze overnight. Birds very active along with small animals. Mill Pond channel opened. Skiing at Belleayre in Shandaken, NY is superb.
