The week was dry and windy with blowing dust and only a trace of precipitation. It looks like February precipitation will be below normal; 0.19 inch has fallen and the NOAA normal is 0.51. Plants and trees are healthy so far this spring with flowers appearing and tree buds opening. Our water supply is adequate with a steady flow in the Rio Grande River. Snowpack in the Sandia Mountains is very low. Only a few days of upper mountain skiing were possible this year due to lack of snow. The autumn-winter season has been very warm and so heating energy need has been low. The heating degree total since July 1 is 2058, much below the normal of 3024. Last year up to this time the total was 2678.
