With a snowpack on the ground since most of December, all of January and February to date (often with an icy crust), the above-freezing temperatures this past week, especially overnight, have quickly begun to shrink the amount of snow on the ground (reported a high of 9.5" snowpack on 1/28, which remained for weeks due to frigid temps)). All plowed driveways and walkways on property have been getting wider and muddier this past week. Snow covered woods (north side of Thomas Hill) now show the cross-country ski trails exposed to the ground, tree stumps, and some rocks. Snowpack on deck is down to about 1", but snow piles abound from removal processes. Birds have been feeding a lot. Squirrels and chipmunks have been active. Forecast is calling for another coastal storm starting tomorrow (Sunday 2/22).
