This past week was one of a bit of winter, and a hint of spring. A couple of mornings found an inch a feathery snow on the ground overnight. Later in the week, it was totally melted away and now only the fence row drifts and ditch snow remain. Of course it is always spoiled by strong, cold winds. It's been interesting to watch the deer 'herds' come out at dusk to forage in the stalk fields. When you see 30-50 deer in one locale, it is a bit startling to discover ther are so many! Alert the DNR as they keep telling us they are containing the numbers and from the damage they do to crops each summer, we can tell they are not. With the warmer temps the ice has melted on the Cedar River as well as the creeks again.
