Station Name: Shutesbury 2.9 SW
Report Date: 2/8/2026
Submitted: 2/08/2026 9:18 AM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
There is a lot of snow (12.5 inches total depth). It is very cold, dry and sunny today after a little more snow and lots of wind yesterday. The cold is the main factor affecting me today. The thermometer read -4 degrees Fahrenheit this morning. We are using our wood stove and propane furnace to heat our house. We have seen crows and heard blue jays and owls. There are deer, rabbit, squirrel, chipmunk, and mouse tracks and tunnels in the drifting snow. Many (but not all) hemlocks are coated with wooly adelgids on the back of their needles. Water in the local streams is flowing/freezing.
