Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: IL-BN-19
Station Name: Belvidere 5.0 NNW
Report Date: 2/7/2026
Submitted: 2/07/2026 8:02 AM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
A grand total of 0.01" of precip fell over the week, mostly from light snow/flurries and very light freezing rain/drizzle. With the ground still frozen soil conditions remain near normal while area waterways look to be about the same as last week, frozen and near their normal levels. My yard has about an inch or two of snowcover but area fields are pretty much windswept and bare. We finally had above freezing temps the other day, wrapping up a string of 19 days below freezing. And it looks like warmer days ahead, so what snow remains will likely melt away. Our NWS long range forecast predicts possible precip ahead and I for one hope they are right, as our drought continues per the U.S. Drought Monitor. Other than a 7 week break last summer, this area has been in some degree of drought for quite a while. With La Nina fading maybe wetter weather will arrive despite the solar maximum. Time will tell. A while back I saw a bald eagle, working on an old deer carcass, looking bloody and muddy and far from majestic. I wondered at the time if it would ever be able to clean itself up and restore that majesty that we so much desire. I like to think that it did.
