Despite recent snow/ice precipitation (slightly less than 6" equating to well under 1" meltwater), conditions remain exceptionally dry. Daytime temps have seldom risen above 32 degrees, and sunny conditions have resulted in very little actual melting--most of the snowpack is disappearing by attrition rather than melt. Even the roadways have had nearly no meltwater. Forages are in full-Winter brown now. The snow has removed fire risk, and several area brush piles have been burned to take advantage of conditions. Pond levels remain about 24 inches below normal, and many have substantial mud rings. Deer, squirrels, rabbits, and birds are venturing out after the storms to forage, often right alongside the livestock.
