The heavy snow on 1/25/2026 ended the D0-ABNORMALLY DRY beginning of drought conditions in Boone, Campbell and Kenton Counties. There is 7 inches of snow cover with about 0.80 SWE on top of the very dry ground surface. The pond level is lower than normal but frozen with 7" of snow on top of it. Both our temperatures and our precipitation has been below normal the past 2 months with about 2/3 the normal value. Made a 1 category improvement from moderately dry to mildly dry due to a significant precipitation event. It looks like this winter is going to be bad over all. Stream flow is below normal and the local shallow streams are probably all frozen on except for the Licking and Ohio River.
