Description:
In the past week we experienced typical winter conditions with temperatures in the low teens up to about 40 degrees one day. The arrival of a major Winter Storm, Fern, brought temperatures in the single digits, wind chills up to -20 degrees and 13.5 inches of snow by 8:30 pm last night, the 25th. Trees are in dormancy and almost all vegetation is buried in snow. Temperatures have continued to stay below 10 degrees. Most wildlife are not visible and appear to be staying in their burrows, dens, or in the woods and thickets. Birds have been more active while they search for seeds, berries, nuts and/or gather around feeders. The snowpack will continue through the coming week as temperatures are not expected to rise above the teens. Wind chills will be of concern throughout the next few days.
