In the past week only 0.23” of precipitation has fallen, keeping York County, South Carolina in a “Moderately Dry” condition. The U.S. Drought Monitor map also affirms this with its D2-Severe Drought Intensity rating. Locally, the ground is firm and any viable plants show little stress, probably due to the fact it is winter. The current ice storm will probably provide little relief as the actual rainfall equivalent is negligible. Statistically, area lakes remain 3-5’ below normal pool. Month- and Year-to-Date rainfall is 2.19” below normal and 0.40” below last year.
