The soil is powdery when I dig down 12 inches. The lakes and ponds are down 20 inches below their normal pool levels. The local streams and creeks can be crossed by foot as they are well below normal flow. The grasses as well as the indigenous vegetation is dry enough to support combustion. Rainfall has been well below average for some time with the soil and vegetation showing the stress.
