I received 0.02 inch of precipitation with 0.2 inch snow on January 17 and conditions remain near normal. Temperatures were generally about 10 degrees above normal this week with the exception of January 12 and 13 with highs in the mid to upper 50s (20 to 25 degrees above normal) and a high of 11 degrees yesterday (22 degrees below normal). The ground remained thawed this week until yesterday when it became frozen solid. Precipitation here for January is now 1.06 inch, which was 0.60 inch above normal (231 percent of normal). Precipitation for the water year is 0.90 inch below normal (84 percent of normal).
Plants and wildlife.
The soil is moist near the surface but the grass is turning brown due to the cold yesterday. Bird visits to the bird bath have remained steady this week, with approximately 25 species of birds (about 120 to 150 birds each day).
Water Supply
Water level in Standing Bear Lake (approximately 0.2 mile to the east of here) is about normal. Area creeks and ponds are also approximately \normal.
