Water year-to-date (through mid-January) precipitation has been spot on normal (total 14.48 inches). After a cold December with slightly below normal snowfall but normal precipitation, January has warmed significantly and is running about 4F above the mean temperatures for December. Several freeze/thaw cycles have resulted in local streams and rivers mostly ice-free and flowing at what appears to be normal, perhaps slightly above normal, rates due to snow melt from higher elevations.
Total snowfall for the water year-to-date is 45 inches at 1600 feet elevation with only about 6 inches of snow on the ground as of mid-January. Snow pack water equivalent was measured the other day and is estimated to be about 1.75 inches.
