About 5.5cm of snow fell this week, the bulk of it yesterday. There has been many days of freezing fog and freezing drizzle, but no significant accretion. Snow cover on the ground is about 28cm, or 11” deep, providing good insulation for water and sewage infrastructure. Occasional snowmachine traffic on lake heard, but not busy. Nordic and downhill ski conditions are excellent. Forest and bog walking trails are navigable and packed, with fresh trails benefitting from snowshoes. Bird feeder is busy with winter visitors as described last week. No redpolls, purple finches or pine siskins seen yet this season. Continues to feel like a typical, somewhat mild, winter.
