Rain late last week reduced the snowpack to 3 inches and brought the precipitation for the month to just above normal. Bassett Brook is partially ice covered and the flow level is normal. Greylock trails are ice and snow covered and remain closed to snowmobiles. Hikers benefit from traction devices. Tracks in the snow last week show activity by deer, coyote, fox, porcupine, opossum, fisher, rabbits and squirrels. An opossum has taken up residence under our shed and frequents our compost pile for snacks. Grey squirrels have started their mating chases. With the warmer weather last week, snow fleas were congregating in depressions in the snow.
