Only 0.86" of precipitation at the beginning of the week, with a dry spell setting in that may last awhile. High 56, low 41, with the clear days dipping into the 30s. Ruth Reservoir full, and the local rivers continue to drop. This dry spell should allow the rivers to clear, making for good fishing. A good site to check river conditions is fishingthenorthcoast.com. Commercial crabbing won't open for the Humboldt coast January 15th, due to continuing concerns about domoic acid. No drought conditions showing for California now. Rivers are running cold, in the lower 40s, while the ocean remains 54-55. Farmer's market in Arcata drawing in the community on Saturdays still, and Cal Poly Humboldt students are beginning to drift in for the spring semester. For some reason my May Bushes began blooming in late December, and continue, while south-facing Periwinkle along the freeway have also begun to bloom. Saw a bumble bee exploring cut flowers outside the local market entrance, a rather interesting January occurrence.
