Description:
Week of (1/4/26-1/10/26) observed less precipitation compared to last week. The precipitation observed during this week was 1.19 inches of precipitation. The amount of precipitation measured was less than the last update of 1.54 inches of precipitation for the previous week of (12/28/25-1/3/26). There was 1.52 inches of precipitation that was recorded at station NY-MR-89 for the month of January compared to the normal climatology precipitation at KROC airport for the month is 0.86 inches of precipitation. There was 2.4 inches of snowfall measured for the week of 1/4/26-1/10/26. There was 8.7 inches of snowfall that was recorded at station NY-MR-89 so far for the month of January compared to the normal climatology snowfall at KROC airport for the month is 8.5 inches. Conditions have remained the same since the last update from last week with the area seeing some beneficial and measurable precipitation in the form of frozen and liquid over this past week and several weeks prior. The area is currently considered moderately dry (Moderate Drought) which has remained the same since the last update due despite the snowpack melting occurred for snowmelt to infiltrate into the groundwater late this week. The sump pump has been pumping periodically ever since January 6th, 2026-January 10th, 2026 and still pumping showing that the ground is becoming moister because this pump hasn’t been pumping much since summer 2025. Evergreen plants such as Boxwoods and the Red Twig Dogwood along with Arborvitae shrubs in the backyard are doing OK due to some beneficial rain and snow falling this week. Backyard needed to be cleaned up due to small and large limbs scattered around the backyard along with one dead ash tree down in the backyard conservation area due to strong gusty winds on January 9th, 2026 during the afternoon and evening. So far, January’s precipitation is currently above average and snowfall currently above average.
