This one is difficult to score. Even though we've had zero precipitation in the new year and below normal precipitatin in December, we came into freeze-up with above normal soil moisture thanks to abundant late summer and fall rains. So I am not complaining about little or no winter precipitation. Most of our stock dams and duggouts are full or at least above average fill for this time of year. If we do get some snow, it should run water because the upper soil profile is relativly wet at freeze-up. Livestock and wildlife are enjoying the warm and open winter. (Me too.) Most creeks are running a good flow for this time of year. Apparently upstream spring are feeding them and abnormally warm weather has not allowed the creeks to freeze to the bottom. I attribute some of the increased water flow to better grazing management practices of my upstream neighbors. I don't remember the creeks flowing at all in the winter when I was a kid, 60-70 years ago.
