Moderately Dry this past week. While we did have 0.17” on 3/4 Jan, previous rain to this was 0.25” on 19 Dec. 7 wildfires across SC. Hiking Poinsett State Park last Thursday showed dry soil, leaves and pine needles. Resurrection ferns (photo attached) are dry, grey and curled. On a trip to Columbia yesterday both the Wateree and Congaree rivers were well down within their banks. Some local roadside swamps are holding a little water, but not much. Outside plants around the house definitely need watering. From Data Explorer: last 30 days: 0.68” (approx 6+” below normal); last 90 days: 9.27” (almost 4” below normal). December was -0.79”, or 78% of normal. For 2025: -.28” or 99% of normal (44.16” total precip for 2025). For Jan ‘26: -0.53” or 24% of normal. With the recent cooler weather the birds and squirrels are steadily visiting the feeders, and the Baltimore Orioles are going through a jar or two of grape jelly every week.
