Over the week our weather gave us quite a roller coaster ride that included wildly fluctuating temperatures, heavy rains, some snow, some sleet and freezing rain and howling winds. Precip totaled 1.16" with 1.08" from rain and 0.08" from a mix of snow and sleet. The ground had definitely thawed out, so a lot of the liquid precip managed to soak in. I was amazed to see a couple of earth worms frozen to my driveway once the cold front had passed. Area waterways have come up to about their normal levels and look pretty good. So it seems safe to say that our soil has finally returned to a near normal condition. The ground went from bare to white and is covered with an inch or so of an icy mix but it looks to become bare again as our NWS is forecasting warmer temperatures next week. Wildlife has been keeping a low profile lately although there have been numerous tracks such as deer, opossum, squirrels, rabbits, fox and probably coyotes. Birds have been at the feeder and some lucky crows found some unlucky mice that had been inside the house. Those crows must be getting hungry as they're getting closer to the house than usual and seem to be less wary. Or they're becoming more tame. Nah. Probably not.
